Delta Air Lines Schedules New Boeing 757-200 Service From Minneapolis–St. Paul To Aruba & St. Maarten (2024)

Summary

  • Delta Air Lines is planning to offer new nonstop flights to Aruba and St. Maarten from Minneapolis-St. Paul.
  • The Boeing 757-200 will operate both routes.
  • The carrier's Latin America and the Caribbean operation from MSP will exceed 20,000 seats per week to 15 destinations.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is already shifting its focus to the winter months, announcing new ways passengers can escape from the often cold and snowy weather in the Midwest. The carrier unveiled on Friday that it will begin nonstop flights from Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP) to both Aruba and St. Maarten starting in December.

Complimenting the new routes, Delta will expand its existing frequencies to Grand Cayman and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The move will increase the airline’s Latin American and Caribbean operations from MSP to more than 120 weekly flights.

Trading out the snow for winter sun

Flights to Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) in Aruba will operate on Fridays and Saturdays and begin on December 20th. Service to Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) in St. Maarten is set to commence the day prior on December 19th, with frequencies scheduled on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Delta’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning, Joe Esposito, spoke about the new routes.

"As the leading carrier from MSP to Latin America and the Caribbean, we're looking forward to increasing our seats to these popular destinations, offering unmatched convenience and expanded choices for our customers. With the addition of Aruba, St. Maarten and recently added Mazatlán, customers have three brand-new sunny destinations to look forward to this winter."

Flight details

The airline will deploy the Boeing 757-200 on both routes. The specific seating configuration of the aircraft, designated as “75D,” accommodates a total of 199 passengers in a two-class layout. First class is comprised of 20 recliner seats, while the main cabin has 179 standard economy seats. 29 main cabin seats are Delta Comfort+ seats, which offer increased legroom by as many as three inches. Premium travelers will enjoy a full meal service, plus complimentary alcoholic beverages. Passengers in Delta Comfort+ will also have free drinks.

Flights will operate four times weekly beginning in October.

Both flights will depart MSP in the morning around 07:00 and arrive before 15:00 local time. The Return journeys are scheduled to leave just after 16:00 and land before 20:30.

The “largest-ever range of options”

Delta will also increase the number of flights on its existing service to Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM), which serves Grand Cayman. The airline will operate an additional weekly flight, bringing the total to three from MSP. Flights to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) will also see frequency increases by two weekly flights, totaling 10. It comes on the heels of Delta’s announcement in February that it would introduce three weekly flights from MSP to Mazatlán beginning on December 21st.

Once all new routes have commenced and expanded frequencies have started this winter, Delta will operate a total of 126 weekly flights, offering over 20,000 seats per week from MSP to 15 destinations.

“The continued surge in international travel has been a key trend for MSP in recent years, and we are excited to see Delta add this new service,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, the owner and operator of MSP. “With the addition of these new flights, Upper Midwest travelers now have their largest-ever range of options to Latin America and the Caribbean. It’s a great time to start planning that winter escape.”
