What is the cheapest natural crystal? ›

Fake stones are often produced from synthetic materials such as glass, resin or plastic. They can also be produced by dyeing cheaper, more readily available minerals.

Taaffeite is The Rarest Crystal on Earth

It's primarily sourced from Sri Lanka, although there have been limited findings in Myanmar and Tanzania. What's fascinating is that more often than not, Taaffeite has been discovered by accident, usually mistaken for other less rare gemstones.

Tanzanite. Tanzanite is a shocking 1000 times more rare than a diamond. Discovered for the first time in 1967 and only found in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, these gemstones go for about $1,500 per carat. Tanzanite has the ability to change color depending on the angle of light it is in.

Avoid crystals that activate the higher chakras, like citrine and selenite. They can prevent you from falling asleep. Do not purchase crystals that contain toxic substances, such as cinnabar or malachite: prolonged exposure to these stones can pose serious health risks.

The easiest way to tell if it's lead crystal glassware or ordinary glass is to take a butter knife or other metal utensil and gently tap the glass; if it makes a drawn-out ringing sound, it is more than likely crystal; if it sounds more like a short dull “clink,” it's glass.

Quartz. A couple variations of quartz, amethyst and citrine already appear on this list, but quartz in general is the most common type of crystal people search for. That's fitting given that it's also the most common crystal on this planet.
